Playin' In The Band: 11/6/79 Philly 11/29/79 Cleveland Public Auditorium Shakedown into Samson especially the end of Shakedown where he pulls some heavy stuff out the funk bag. Far From Me 9.6.1980 10-09-80 unique version of feel like a stranger. nice pace and instrumentation. made me think of the meters on quaaludes, and a confident solo on friend of the devil. Ive always loved everything Brent did in the first set 7-7-81. just blows me away every time and Brent is heavy on the B3 action! Samson & Delilah: 10/4/81 London Big River @ Glenn Falls in '82, I'd have to hunt down the tape for the exact date, but that's close.... I sure did wear that out that tape. Good Times Blues: 5/22/82 Berkeley 83-04-20 maybe you know is rockin. actually the whole show smokes, imho. Help 4-1-84 4-26-84 Providence RI, check out the Shakedown Street... March 29th 1990 this is one you would enjoy ITs what turned me on, on in many ways, on to the GD, on to life, on to existing in itself. Set two, as you can see, is a jam. Set one, is beautiful with brent twinkleeeeeeeing all the way through. At one time i had about 15 1990 shows on my hdd, but i got rid of them because lack of hdd space, im going to currently go back and try to recollect the spring 90 run, it was a magical run. 88, and 89 had Brent twinkleing like mad. For some reason his rhodes didnt sound like it did in late 80's and 1990 earlier years. I was sampling a 79 show earlier today and hes still playing a rhodes, but it doesnt have that twinkle spark flare im there type feeling.Shakedown street march 18th 1990 oooh babay, brent tradeing licks with Jerry, and then blasting out a mamoth solo! Anything from 1990!! gets me all feeling warm inside again!! Franklin's 3/30/90 blow away fom 6/15/90. i don't care for artifical sounding keyboards and syth stuff myself. some of his b3 work on various mingelwoods and it's all over now capture my attention. i love the man's soulful vocals and his playing has a near perfect balance between feel and perfection. some of the best he's gone selections may be from brent era shows. the one thing that does seperate him from the other keyboard players is a commanding vocal prescence. imho. tks... 06-17-90 Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, Ca. (Sun) The Father's Day when his daughter sat with him on the stool as he played Take You Home. I don't usually get sentimental about things like this, but even in that moment, I recognized it as something special. Of the 40 or so shows I attended between 89-91, he was the fire and energy in the majority of them. I saw several shows where the Dead were dead, and he saved them from the sleeper abyss. Loved when he'd flip a wig during Blow Away jams. The guy would get personal! Blow Away 7/16/90 Sugar Mag>Scarlet 7/16/90 Let The Good Times Roll: 7/17/89 Alpine Valley Easy To Love you: 7/18/90 Deer Creek Jack Straw 7/19/90 Row Jimmy 7/19/90 7/23/90 maybe not one of his finest moments, but a sentimental favorite that sends a chill up my spine is Brent's last lyric ever sung, "I gotta go but my friend can stick around" some reviews I read on lma and other places confirm he was lookin' at Jer' when he sung it, gets me every time. |
