China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider http://arts.ucsc.edu/gdead/agdl/china.html > http://www3.clearlight.com/~acsa/introjs.htm?/~acsa/songfile/I1KNOWYO.HTM Words by Robert Hunter; music by Jerry Garcia I'm partial to the '69 and '70 China Cats. That first minute could be stretched into twenty minutes for all I care. I've always enjoyed the segue into IKYR, but it's a rare treat for me to really get into IKYR proper. one of my all time favorties is the one from Honolulu 1-23-70 72-04-17 Brings a big smile to my face :-D St. Paul 2-17-73 the transition between Here Comes Sunshine and China Cat/Rider is my all time favorite 3/21/73 you should put on a pair of headphones, crank it real loud and listen to the C>R from 5-26-73 Kezar - HOLY SHIT - the stereo serparation is increidble and you can really hear everyone and Bob totally shines (not to mention JG and PHIL). This is one of my top 5!! If you get into it, Set 3 is simply awesome! All of it! Portland in 5-19-74 6/26/74 china>mlb jam>rider the china cat that starts goes into a jam back into china cat then the mlb jam into a nice rider 12-1-79. Sensational throughout but notable for an extended jam after the second verse of Rider. Way laid back but smoking hot at the same time... stellar, high energy China/Rider Lewiston ME 9-6-1980 the Greek from 6-15-85 is an absolute smoker. Alpine '7-17-89 Yay! I get another opportunity to let everyone know what my favorite LATE C>R is. 12/30/89 Has one of the best transition peaks and Headlights around. The day before New years rocked harder than than the 31st itself sometimes and this was one of those shows. I do love the way Jerry plays around with the China intro on 3/26/90. good stuff.i recommend getting the whole 3/26/90 and listen to it in context, unleash it's full potential.for late era ones i have to go with 3/26/90. it was not the set opener and actually in the the 3rd slot in the set after the final Built to Last and a very spacey Victim or the Crime, when it gurgles up out of the dissonance of the end of the Victim it was a total surprise. the pace is fast and hard and even though the show ended with a very nice Dew, after the show everyone was talking about the China>Rider. 4/1/91 is the best late-era China>Rider. 1992-06-08 has a good China Cat, and an absolutly smoking Rider, Welnick breaks it down on keyboard. The last Filmore shows from 71, also had spectacular CCS >IKYR from phantasy tour 03/07/70 Star Theatre, Phoenix, AZ 09/09/72 Hollywood Palladium, Hollywood, CA 04/02/73 Boston Garden, Boston, MA 05/26/73 Kezar Stadium, San Francisco, CA 10/19/73 Oklahoma City Fairgrounds Arena, Oklahoma City, OK Dicks Picks Vol.19 05/19/74 Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR 06/26/74 Providence Civic Center, Providence, RI - Dicks Picks Vol. 12 10/28/79 Cape Cod Coliseum, South Yarmouth, MA 03/09/81 Madison Square Garden, New York, NY 06/16/90 Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA View From The Vault III Honorable Mentions: 02/01/70 The Warehouse, New Orleans, LA 12/06/73 Cleveland Convention Center, Cleveland, OH 08/05/74 Civic Convention Hall Auditorium, Philadelphia, PA Dicks Picks Vol.31 08/16/80 Mississippi River Festival, Edwardsville, IL 09/20/90 Madison Square Garden, New York, NY Historically Significant: 9/30/69 Cafe au Go-Go, New York, NY- First Pairing... a href="http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=12920 8/27/72 Old Renaissance Faire Grounds, Veneta, OR- Springfield Creamery Benefit 3/16/73 Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, NY- First "Feelin' Groovy" segue jam... 10/17/74 Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA- GD Movie 12/29/77 Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA Post-Retirement Bustout (Dicks Picks Vol.10) 7/8/95 Soldier Field, Chicago, IL- Last Time Played... |
