The proper nuances for this piece would be brought out from '73-'77 I like the early ones. 69-04-13 and 04-27 come to mind. Back to topic, another Morning Dew I've always liked is Prairieville, LA, 09-01-1969. I only have it on cassette, so I haven't heard it in years, but its very good! 8-24-72 12-31-72 any of the 72/73 Dark Star>Dew combo's are also sweet. 8/1/73 1-17-73 6/16-6/30/74 is a week in Disneyworld. It is all so sparkly, mystical, and lovely. It's also got a glittering nocturnal element. Only thing is I've listened to that block too many times. 11/73 is a good contrast, because it is to sunshine and golden deliciousness what 6/74 is to nighttime ambience. 1974-06-18: maybe not the most powerful morning dew out there, but in context, quite nice. the first set is increibly strong, even by 1974 standards. the second set and encore truly stand out though. absent of a dark star or a truckin which seem almost commonplace (it feels weird writing that!!!) as a launching pad for exploration in this era, we are treated to one of the finest sets of all time. we dive into a wrs prelude>wrs1>let it grow which at this show seems to have come into its own. this second set is all about bob and barlow lyrically, until jerry notches it up again. the jam after let it grow is sublime, but the other one>its a sin jam are what make 1974 gd so special. i cuold go on and on about this show, but i wont. throw this in the cd player, grab a case of fat tire, send the wife on her way, pull out the kind, grab a couple of mates "in the know", take a listen, and prove me wrong. just my .02. maybe i am jaded, but thats how i just spent the majority of my evening. just got done enjoying the nice little Dew 4-15-78. 4/6/82 Philadelphia spectrum - great aud available, and everything after drums is perfect- not to mention the fabulous set opener shakedown I just love 1982. Summer was it. Jerry Garcia and I share a birthdate, and he turned 40 as I turned 20. Come and gone, my oh my! 9/17/82. Big rises and falls... 10-09-82 Gotta believe in The Power of the Spectrum. http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=venue:%22The%20Spectrum%22 It seemed like everytime I saw them at the Spectrum, they always played an amazing Shakedown Street and a stunning Morning Dew...but the top prize Dew in my mind goes to 3/24/86. This show caught some heat for being short like a lot of '86 shows and in particular because Dew was the only song they played after Drums/Space...but that Dew was simply stunning and by the end, I couldn't imagine them doing it the diservice of some singsong Bobby numbers to fill in the set. ..drums>space>Dew and out was fine by me. 4.20.1984 Philly I'm a big dewhead, and one of my favorites is 1984-10-12 from the Augusta Civic Center. A lot of folks seem to feel Cornell 77 is the tops, but I prefer a lot of the shorter 80's versions because of Brent's rotating speaker effect. If I had to pick one, its gotta be 10-12-84, because Jerry's vocal is as powerful as it gets. In the aud sources, it literally sounds like his vocals are coming out of the walls of the arena instead the PA. I know Jer hits some atonal licks during the quiet parts, but he more than makes up for it if you take the performance as a whole. It always gives me goosebumps! 5-2-87 9-18-87 Alpine Valley June '88! Might not be the best but it deserves mentioning 7/2/88 Oxford Plains. 7-18-90 Deer Creek Was front row and went note for note on the air guitarleading into the final build-up, but alas Jerry was victorious in the end :innocent: 3-30-88 Meadowlands East Rutherford NJ. :w00t: ditto on the 7-2-88 Maine and 6-23-88 Alpine Dews. I've always thought that Dew really matured in the post-coma era (which I always seem to be promoting). for under appreciated late era ones i really like 3/23/91, though no SBD is in circulation, this was one of the most powerful ones i saw live. 9-9-93 |
